Seven kilometers of beach, split by streams
Esterillos is one very long beach — about seven kilometers — divided by streams into the Oeste, Centro and Este sections. The sand is gray, the setting is rural, and the surf is strong along the whole stretch, which makes it a genuine surf beach rather than a swimming beach. Surfers who find Jacó crowded come here for the same swell with more room.

La Sirena de Esterillos
The landmark at Esterillos Oeste is a bronze mermaid, cast more than forty years ago by the sculptor Albino Valverde of Puriscal, sitting on the rocks offshore facing the ocean. In August 2023 the force of the tide tore the sculpture from its base; it was recovered and returned to its rock. Time your walk out for low tide.
